Qt uses styles to fake the look and feel of the platform. GTK uses a theming API to fake the look and feel of the platform (custom theming engine on GTK2, CSS-based engine on GTK3). wxWidgets uses the native toolkit of the platform, (GTK on Linux, Win32 GUI API on Windows, Cocoa on MacOS X). ( Qt 5.14+ and Qt 6 allow apps to customize what rounding method is used, except on KDE where it's passed through no. Qt 5 defaults to rounding the magnification factor (output physical pixels / input program-facing virtual pixels) to an integer (except on KDE where it's passed through), while Qt 6 defaults to passing it through as a real number. Some of the forums have GTK fans rubbishing Qt based on the problems in KDE. The next step might be to convert Qt and GTK to use Aura internally. At the rate Qt and GTK are progressing, it is more likely Aura will be ported back to Linux.

The most GTK or Qt can hope for is to be the first 'cross platform' GUI to reach Android.

AFAIK GTK+ is open-source all the way, while Qt was proprietary and was forced to be put under a FOSS license just because KDE used. I was always under the impression that GTK+ is more 'FOSS-oriented' than Qt. All in all, I would say Qt is a sure choice. If you're specifically looking into DB, XML (GTK+ has a parser for a subset of XML) and threading (GTK+ has GLib) features then Qt will offer all that in QtSql, QtXml and QtConcurrent. Indeed, that same GTK2 IDE (as long as you have setup FPC cross compilers) will also make Windows and Raspberry Pi binaries. Normally, for a cross platform app, you will define in your project a mode for GTK2, QT5, Windows, MacOS, perhaps Raspberry Pi and maybe GTK3 (?).
